Chemovar
aka chemotype · chemical variety
Chemovar refers to the chemical profile of a cannabis plant — the specific cannabinoid + terpene fingerprint — rather than its taxonomic name. Many researchers argue that the indica/sativa/hybrid framework is genetically unreliable and that chemovar (e.g., 'Type I THC-dominant, myrcene-caryophyllene-pinene') is a more honest classification.
Example: The strain name says 'sativa' but the chemovar reads myrcene-dominant indica.
Etymology: From 'chemical' + Latin 'varietas' (variety); adopted in cannabis science around 2015.
