Pheno-Hunting
aka pheno hunt · phenotype hunting
Pheno-hunting is the practice of growing many seeds of a single cross and selecting the standout individual plants (phenotypes) for cloning and continued cultivation. Boutique brands like Areté, JGrows, and Handcrafted Farmers run pheno hunts on releases like Permanent Marker and RS11 to find the most flavor-loud, terpene-rich, or visually striking expressions before committing acreage.
Example: Their pheno hunt of RS11 produced three keepers and 27 culls.
Etymology: Cannabis breeder vernacular; used since the early breeding scene of the 1980s-90s.
